For some pets, blood pressure monitoring is an extremely valuable tool. Blood pressure is checked on any pet that is suspected of having high or low pressure and as part of our routine wellness exam for geriatric patients. This includes pets with heart disease, kidney disease, sudden onset of blindness, recent trauma, or other severe illnesses. By regularly checking their pressure, just like in human patients with hypertension, we can tailor medication and therapies to effectively suit individuals.
Blood pressure is also an important monitoring tool while your pet is under anaesthetic. It increases the safety of the anesthesia by allowing us to more accurately adjust both the anesthesia rates and the intravenous fluid rates for more precise care for your cat as an individual.
